Kai works at Yost Boards, Mitch's surf shop on Imperial Beach. Like many other characters on the show, Kai is a surfer. She is also a board shaper - or designer. Kai lives behind the surf shop, in a trailer.

Besides holding down the fort at the Yosts' surf shop, Kai jumps in as the voice of reason in the chaotic family. She may come across as crass and unassailable, but sensitivity toward Shaun - and Butchie - occasionally reveals the softness of this edgy surfer chick.
